Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before your move — from rates and booking to what we can and can't haul.
Common Questions
Where can I get moving boxes?
Your local corner store or liquor store is the easiest place to grab small and large boxes for free — they come in all sizes. If you need specialty boxes like wardrobe boxes or TV boxes, head to U-Haul or Home Depot. You can also order packing materials online from Amazon.
Is it cheaper to Uber my stuff instead of hiring movers?
Not really. The amount you'd spend on multiple Uber rides adds up fast — and you're limited to what fits in a sedan or SUV. You can Uber a few small, important items, but don't try to load up a driver's car with your whole apartment. That's not what they signed up for. Put that money toward the move and save yourself the headache.
What are your rates?
Every job is different. Rates depend on what you're moving, how much of it there is, whether there are stairs or an elevator, and how long the job takes. Be as specific as possible when you reach out — it helps us give you an accurate quote.
Can I help during the move?
Yes, and that's one thing that makes us different from other moving companies. Clients can help by standing near the van so we don't get a ticket or get towed — a huge help in NYC. You can also pitch in with small items during offloading. Don't worry about the heavy stuff, that's our job. But even one small gesture goes a long way.
Booking & Lead Times
We take bookings based on job size. Here's how far in advance you should reach out:
| Job Type | Book Ahead |
|---|---|
| Single room, Craigslist/IKEA/store pickup | 2 – 5 days |
| Studio – 1 bedroom apartment | 1 – 2 weeks |
| 2 – 4 bedroom apartment | 2 weeks – 1 month |
| 4+ bedroom / house | At least 6 weeks |
| Furniture assembly | 3 – 5 days |
| Packing (room/studio) | 1 week |
| Packing (studio – 1 bedroom) | 1 – 2 weeks |
| Packing (1 – 4 bedroom) | 2 – 3 weeks |
If you have a bulk load of items that need assembling, let us know ahead of time so we can schedule accordingly.
A Few Things We Can't Help With
We want to be upfront. We do not transport the following:
- Illegal drugs, firearms, or ammunition
- Fireworks or explosives
- Pets or live animals
- Hazardous materials of any kind
- Pianos (requires specialized piano movers with the right equipment)
How to Prep for Moving Day in NYC
A little prep work goes a long way. Here's what to do before we show up:
Figure out parking
NYC parking is unpredictable — one-way streets, outdoor dining patios, blocked lanes. Do your homework ahead of time and have a plan for where our van can park. It makes everything faster and smoother.
Check with your building
If you live in a doorman building, contact management to find out where the service elevator is. Not every building lets you move through the front door. Some buildings don't allow moves on weekends — double-check the rules.
Take out the trash first
Any garbage or junk you can get rid of before moving day, do it. Call 311 to find out pickup rules from the DSNY (Department of Sanitation of New York), or talk to your super or building porters. Follow the building's disposal rules.
Plan the timing
Make sure the service elevator is reserved for your move date. Check the weather forecast. Check for parades or city events. Avoid rush hour if possible — both morning and afternoon. Check for any road or bridge closures that could slow things down.
